We offer unlimited training for our members.

We offer a wide variety of training sessions to provide our members with the skills necessary in today’s competitive workplace. Training sessions cover software like Microsoft Office, Bloomberg, Nielsen, Quickbooks, along with others such as VBA and Stata. Members also have the opportunity to obtain recognized certifications through the Certiport exams designed for Microsoft Office.

We believe the single most valuable software skill for all our members, across all disciplines — 

is mastery of Microsoft Excel. 

To help our members better navigate our course offerings, we divide our programming into Training Pathways. These pathways are designed to help our members understand which courses will best help them on their career path, and the order in which they should take those courses.

How to Register For a Course

Members:

  2. Go to The Prism Lab and speak to one of our friendly Member Services Representatives to sign up for all of the courses you are interested in.

Non-Members:

Microsoft Office

Excel 1: In this module you will be introduced to basic Excel tools leading to advanced calculation and data manipulation. Application tools for formula analysis, What-If Analysis and Excel Models build up. Data Manipulation through vlookup statements, linking Excel workbooks and discovering developer tab.

Application of Nested If Statements, formulas with multiple conditions, filtering and grouping data, and data visual formatting. Recommended to take Excel 1 prior to taking Excel 2.

Excel Crash Course: This five-hour class introduces students to the basic and advanced functions and formulas using excel calculations while working with workbooks and formatting. Covers material in all Excel classes. This course will also prepare you to take the Microsoft Excel Certiport Certification.

Powerpoint: The Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint course will allow you to create creative and professional presentation, customer slideshows with advance transitioning skills, a more efficient approach when utilizing PowerPoint.

Word: This course will teach you about creating and delivering professional documents, linking external sources to document, customizing printing properties, developing a mail merge and form database, as well as other advanced techniques that will optimize your Word experience.

Certify your skills with a Certiport Microsoft Office Specialist Certification. 

Students can achieve a MOS certification with Microsoft Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Bloomberg Analytics Certification: This module provides an overview of navigating Bloomberg. NOTE: You must write an exam after taking this course to obtain a certification

Bloomberg: Advanced Equity Research: This course builds off the Intro to Equity Research module. Delving deeper into core topics such as fundamental analysis, capital allocation, and financial modelling.

Quickbooks 1 : This course will teach you the basics of setting up a Quickbooks file for use within a small business setting. Students will learn how to manage the books for basic day-to-day functions through Quickbooks.

Audit 1 – Audit Theory: This course will give students a quick crash course of an Audit commencing from the planning stages to the completion of an Audit. Students will also receive tips on how to get a job at a PA firm and get to learn what it is like to work for an PA firm.

Audit 2 – Caseware Practical Component: This course will provide a brief introduction to the Caseware Working Papers software to students and allow students to perform basic audit procedures frequently done at PA firms.

Excel VBA and Coding

Excel – VBA: Learn to automate database tasks and record a macro with Microsoft VBA. It is highly recommended that you have taken Excel Advanced I or had equivalent experience prior to taking this course.

Excel – VBA 2: This course builds on the skills learned in Excel VBA 1, thus it is required to have taken that course or have prior experience with VBA before taking this course. This is an advanced VBA course.

Introduction to Python: Learn the basics of programming with one of the most flexible and popular programming languages. Also used in CP104 and CP114.

Introduction to SQL: In the SQL module, you will learn how to communicate with a relational database in Microsoft Access. SQL will teach you to manipulate databases in order to analyze data effectively. By the end of the course, you will be able to use SQL to achieve many of the results found in the Microsoft Access course. With the advent of big data, SQL is becoming the most sought after programming language for companies looking to hire.

Web Design 1: This course is an introduction to HTML and basic CSS. You will learn how to insert and apply formatting to text and images and create links, tables and lists. Students will gain experience with coding in HTML, a language used to construct the basics of a website.

Web Design 2: A continuation of Web Design 1, this course teaches students to categorize their styling preferences for websites by using structures such as IDs and Classes. The primary focus of this course is to teach students to combine the languages HTML and CSS to create a functional and visually appealing website.

Marketing and Sales

Nielsen Module 1: In this Module we will be introduced to Nielsen’s MarketTrack Database through Answers Desktop. You will start by learning how to evaluate Performance Measurement facts and identify opportunities. Then we will Navigate Answers desktop to efficiently, modify data selections, save updateable reports, and format reports.

Nielsen Module 2: In this Module we will evaluate distribution facts and understand when to use which fact. Then we will look in to ranking and sorting item level data, creating folders for your favourites, and applying conditions to your reports.

Nielsen Module 3: In this Module we will evaluate Promotional Facts & Conditions and describe how to read the facts through the promotional conditions. Also, we will learn how to integrate Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint with Answers Desktop.

Nielsen Crash Course:  A 6 hour course that introduces students to MarketTrack and Answers Desktop, understanding the “why” behind Nielsen Data as well as promotional and pricing data. This course combines all three Nielsen modules to allow students to receive their certification at the end.

Intro to Stata: In this Module, learn the basic fundamentals of Stata. Beneficial for Economics students

R: R is a statistical manipulation software that is used commonly in data science and business for data analysis. It is a general purpose language that can be used in many industries. Students will work with data sets within R studio to achieve outputs and results in order to analyze the data

  • Salesforce (Customer Relationship Management software)
    • This course is designed to provide an overview of the widely-used Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and teaches you to perform the common functions you would use in the workplace. It will also introduce you to Trailhead training modules and provide you with the resources necessary to take you from beginner to expert.
  • Prism x Library Research Courses
    • This course will introduce students to the library resources useful for exploring industries and companies. Students will learn essential research strategies and how to implement them, as well as developing effective search skills through hands-on practice.
